June 20, 2025 by SoWal Staff

Get ready for an evening of incredible music as the acclaimed Ruthie Foster takes the stage June 26th at Watersound Town Center for the "Sounds Like Summer" concert series!

Known for her powerful voice and deeply soulful blend of blues, gospel, folk, and R&B, Foster promises a captivating outdoor performance that's sure to be a highlight of the season.

Ruthie Foster's musical journey is as eclectic and vibrant as her soulful voice. Born into a gospel-rich family in Gause, Texas, Ruthie was influenced by her mother, grandmother, and artists like the Gospel Keynotes and the Blind Boys of Alabama. Initially shy, Ruthie embraced her talent, thanks to encouragement from her family and church community. Her latest album, Mileage, to be released on the legendary Sun Records, reflects on her life and musical journey. Produced and co-written by Tyler Bryant & co-written with Rebecca Lovell (Bryant's wife and 1/2 of Larkin Poe), the album features powerful tracks like "Rainbow" and "Heartshine." Ruthie’s rich storytelling and authenticity have captivated and inspired audiences worldwide. With Mileage, she invites listeners on a soul-stirring voyage, echoing her rich heritage and life experiences.

Doors open at 5:00p.m. and performances start at 6:00 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. The very popular local act, Lord of Strings opens the concert - formerly known as the Saunders Boyz and affectionately known to most fans on 30a by their first names: Balder (father) and Rowan (son). The new name alludes to the pair's virtuosity on several stringed instruments - in particular mandolin, bass and six string guitars. Foster, a six time Grammy nominee, mixes a wide palette of American song forms, from gospel and blues to jazz, folk and soul. She will perform the resulting signature tunes on her electric/acoustic guitar plugged into a vintage Fender deluxe.

Gather your friends and family, bring your blankets or chairs, and settle in for a delightful evening under the stars with the soulful sounds of Ruthie Foster. It's the perfect way to soak up the summer vibes in South Walton!
