Alaqua Animal Refuge believes that every abused, neglected and homeless animal deserves a second chance. The private, nonprofit animal sanctuary is committed to serving the Emerald Coast as the premier no-kill refuge, providing protection, shelter and care to animals in need. Alaqua is a full-service animal adoption center serving as a peaceful, proactive animal welfare advocate through educational outreach and community programs. 

Alaqua Animal Refuge, an independent, nonprofit organization located on Florida’s Emerald Coast, advocates the general welfare and humane treatment of animals by providing shelter, adoption services and prevention of pet overpopulation.

Located on 100 acres of generously donated land in Walton County, Alaqua Animal Refuge is a premier no-kill sanctuary dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and advocating for animals in need.

The refuge provides respite for over 500 animals at any given time. Since its founding in 2007, Alaqua has helped find homes for tens of thousands of animals, with over 100 adoptions completed each month. They rescue everything from dogs and cats to horses, pigs, donkeys, cows, goats, birds, and even the occasional emu! With so many animals, their team can always use a helping hand. • Volunteer: Participate as an individual or organize a group from your business. Opportunities include animal care, sanctuary upkeep, event support and educational outreach.
