One of the most extraordinary things about South Walton beaches are the sea turtles that nest here. They need our help and protection to survive. As a volunteer with South Walton Turtle Watch (SWTW), it’s not only a great opportunity to spend time on the beach, but it’s also a great way to enjoy nature and create community.
The St. Joe Community Foundation is presenting the 3rd Annual Premiere Golf Tournament at Camp Creek Golf Club on May 19, 2014, to benefit Children's Volunteer Health Network. All proceeds from the event will be used for ongoing operating funds to sustain the Children's Volunteer Health Network mission of facilitating medical, dental, vision and mental health care of local uninsured and underinsured children.
The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA) in collaboration with UF/IFAS Extension & Florida Sea Grant will host a public workshop at Padgett Park (810 JD Miller Rd, SRB) on Monday, April 21 from 5:30 to 7pm. Attendees will learn how to identify invasive plants found in our community, and how to use this knowledge to improve their neighborhoods.

Bud & Alley’s Waterfront Restaurant on Scenic 30A in Seaside will host a special wine dinner on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 7 p.m. featuring a menu especially prepared by celebrity chef and author Donald Link of New Orleans.
It was wonderful to come back to Walton County for an extended period of time earlier this year. First, with Escape To Create as an Artist in Residence at Seaside, and now returning on my own to capture more moving images for this documentary story. Each working visit affirms the importance to showcase the Coastal Dune Lakes of Walton County.

When Joyce VerStraete was admitted to Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast recently, she was pleasantly surprised to see volunteer artist Rita Stuck enter her hospital room wheeling her “art cart”. Joyce quickly had clay in her hands and a smile on her face, chatting about children and grandchildren, completely forgetting she was in the hospital.

Shelter House Domestic Violence Center will host its 10th Purses with a Purpose event March 21 & 22 at Silver Sands Premium Outlets. During the two-day event, hundreds of new and gently used designer handbags, scarves by Ella Madison Boutique, and sunglasses from Lynn Roberts International will be sold and auctioned off, with all proceeds benefiting Shelter House.
