Walton Outdoors is pleased to announce the annual Explore the Outdoors Festival on Saturday, October 5. The event will be held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the beautiful waterfront location of Live Oak Landing Outdoor Destination, 229 Pitts Avenue, Freeport, Florida.
If you've been to one of South Walton's state parks this season, you might have noticed extra activity along the shore in low-lying dune areas. We have some very special visitors to our shores and this story and photos by our friend Jeff Talbert, Park Services Specialist at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, is welcome information about our feathered friends.

World Paddle For The Planet is an eco-educational fundraiser festival that will be held at Carillon Beach in Panama City Beach, Florida, October 10-13, 2013. With satellite events around the world, the purpose is to educate and raise awareness, sending the message worldwide, to “Be the change you want to see!" Funds raised by this event will benefit Expedition Florida 500, a project of Mother Ocean.
The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA) of Northwest Florida State College is a local watershed organization committed to sustaining and providing optimum utilization of the Choctawhatchee Basin watershed.
We fulfill our commitment by working within four main program areas: monitoring, restoration, education, and research. This means we are constantly studying, learning, and sharing information about Choctawhatchee Bay, Choctawhatchee River, and Walton County’s coastal dune lakes.

You will enjoy a relaxing afternoon on a private 2-hour cruise around picturesque Destin Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico on the Southern Star Glass Bottom Boat, looking for Dolphins and other local wildlife.
Light hors d'ourves along with beer, wine and soda will be served while you enjoy live music by artist Derek Givans. Meet some of the refuge's live animal ambassadors.
Parents looking for a truly inspiring setting for their children to develop creativity, art skills and an appreciation for nature and the visual arts need look no further than the E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center located at 4956 State Hwy. 20 East in Freeport, Florida. The Biophilia Center is hosting Abrakadoodle-Northwest Florida for an impressive array of affordable, nature-themed camp programs for children ages 5-12. Summer camps kick-off June 5, with weekly sessions each Wednesday through July 31 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Topsail Hill Preserve State Park on the western end of Scenic 30A should be at the top of your must do list. No visit to South Walton is complete without seeing our masterpiece of a park, where wild coastal forest and serene dune lakes meet the glorious Gulf.
Get out and celebrate the Earth at the Biophilia Center for the Earth Day Festival. The event will feature bluegrass music with Franko and Fiends, food, environmental demos, animal ambassadors, arts and crafts, hikes, and so much more. The Earth Day Festival starts at 10:00 a.m. and goes until 3:00 p.m. Tickets are just $2 and children under six get in free.

The Third Annual "It's a Spring Thing" event takes place April 6 from 10am-2pm at the beautiful location of Camp Helen State Park, and is presented by the Department of Environmental Protection, the park and Friends of Camp Helen State Park. The event is a fun, interactive experience that promotes a variety of activities and resources available in Walton County, Bay County and the surrounding areas.
