Pickle's in Seaside is All New and Aiming High
May 16, 2012 by SoWal Staff
If you have a wet suit and sandy feet on a warm and sunny beach day, there's nothing like walking up to Pickle's and ordering a juicy burger, fries, and a shake. The Seaside eatery is the scene of so many special SoWal beach memories. Now it's much, much better.
Owner Bill Dawson set his sights on having the "best burger on the beach" and with hand cut fries, grass-fed beef, and handmade shakes, he is on his way to claiming the title. The iconic building on Scenic 30A just steps from the beach has gotten a facelift as well with new colors, signs, menu, and dining deck right on the street where you can kick back and watch the small world pass by.
On the other side of Pickles remains the casual setting under the magnolia trees within easy earshot of the waves and gulls, where you can feel the soft breeze from the Gulf of Mexico.
Pickle's building was one of the first built in Seaside. At one time it was used for showing 16mm films at night in Perspicacity. But 15 years ago Bill and Heavenly Dawson approached Seaside founder Robert Davis as he sat on his bike looking at the then vacant building, and the concept for a popular hotdog and draft beer stand was born.
Well Pickle’s has grown up, and remains a true favorite of locals and visitors for lunch and dinner seven days a week. The first menu featured hotdogs, draft beer and pickles. Today, the all-American burger grill by the beach also features free-range chicken and turkey burgers, BLT, Club and Philly Cheese Steak sandwhiches, and of course fried pickles.
Across Scenic 30A, the Dawsons have opened Wild Bill's Beach Dogs on airstream row, and for many years have owned Heavenly Shortcakes and Dawson's Yogurt in Seaside. When you're living it up in Seaside the couple wants to make sure you're well fed with beach favorites.
