The semi-annual Seaside Community Yard Sale is a blast. Everyone loves a bargain and the excitement is off the charts. Some vendors arrive at 3:30 AM to set up and the first shoppers arrive earlier than the early bird to get the worm. You never know what you might find, from a funky piece of local art, to a bolt of fabulous fabric, to a cranky old fishing reel.
The official results are in for our 2012 "You're So SoWal if..." contest! We had so much FUNN reading all of the GRAYT entries! This year's submissions ranged from heartwarming to hilarious, emotional to whimsical, and of course some may be a bit controversial.
We're overwhelmed with the participation of so many SoWal beach lovers from near and far, and thank everyone so much for sharing what SoWal means to them, especially our loyal SoWal Forum members.

As Tropical Storm Isaac veers off his SoWal bullseye and heads west to become Hurricane Isaac, the city of New Orleans braces for a direct hit nearly seven years to the day on which Hurricane Katrina devastated the crescent city.
Eerily, Isaac has stalled just off the Louisiana coast as if wanting to make his entry into the city exactly on the seventh anniversary of Katrina.
As hard as we try, hurricanes are unpredictable.

This year's Rags To Riches Regatta took place on Grayton Beach on Sunday, July 1, 2012. It was a colorful and action-packed SoWalcom-sponsored tradition residents and visitors love to take part in and make memories.

It was a wet weekend in SoWal but the Digital Graffiti crew perservered and pulled of an amazing two-night event. It poured rain on Friday and Saturday afternoons but held off both nights. The glistening streets and walkways reflected the mesmerizing art projected on to the walls of Alys Beach. The party at Caliza Pool on Saturday night was sizzling!
"I don't care about no art I just want to dance," said one young lady in a very short skirt headed in the direction of the thump thump from DJ Chachi poolside on Saturday.

Bud and Alley's is an incredible venue by the gulf - with seating by the dunes and a rooftop bar with sunset views. What more could you ask for than SoWal's own Kelsey Anna belting out her tunes and frequent visitors Larkin Poe with a backdrop of crystal clear water and beach umbrellas?

South Walton locals know one of the best ways to kick off Summer is the annual Grayton Beach Kids Fishing Tournament. This year it was a bit cloudy and windy but no one seemed to mind.
Registration was only $5.00 per kid for boys and girls under the age of 15. The tourney is intended to promote responsible use of our marine resources through recreational fishing. Each participant receives a free rod and reel, tackle box, beach rod holder, bait, Pompano rigs and weights. Eighteen gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded!
