September 25, 2019 by SoWal Staff
The Emerald Coast’s official Big Green Egg EggFest cooking competition, Eggs on the Beach, is returning to Seascape Resort in Miramar Beach on September 28th from 10:00 a.m. til 1:30 p.m.
Presented by Bay Breeze Patio, the annual event celebrates the delicious results of cooking on the Big Green Egg while benefiting two local charities: Fisher House of the Emerald Coast and Food for Thought.
It’s a tough job but somebody’s got to do it. Come and enjoy a day of delicious foods cooked on the Big Green Egg during this friendly competition. Food will be coming off the Big Green Eggs by 30+ cook teams so come hungry! Vote for your favorites and three teams will earn the coveted "People's Choice" Awards. Advance taster tickets are available at http://www.eggsonthebeach.com.
Nearly 30 cook teams will be smoking, grilling and baking their favorite dishes on the Big Green Egg while tasters sample the delicious bites and vote for their favorites. The sixth annual Eggs on the Beach will feature tastings, live music, ENCO Sports Zone, Knob Creek Craft Cocktail Seminars, Abita Beer pairing seminar, Kids Zone, chances to win a Big Green Egg, and more.
From backyard grillers to local restaurants to area non-profit organizations, each cook team will be serving delicious bites, ranging from meats and seafood to veggies and desserts. Tasters will sample unlimited bites and vote for their favorites. Teams compete in a variety of divisions, including Tasters’ Choice Non-profit and Tasters’ Choice Main Event. The fun, spirited competition is heightened by a panel of honorary judges who will award three teams with first, second and third place trophies. Honorary judges for 2019 include Jack McGuckin, Executive Chef at Bijoux, Phil McDonald and Debbie Swenerton of Black Bear Bread Co., Airforce Sergeant Kerrigan Wofford, and Nikhil Abuvala, Chef/Owner of Roux 30a. Teams will also compete for “Best Booth Display” and “Best Bite infusing Knob Creek Bourbon.”
"We are humbled to have so many incredible supporters of Eggs on the Beach and through the generosity of our sponsors were able to increase the cash prizes for our non-profit cook teams this year,” said Eggs on the Beach Co-founder Susan Kiley.
Our cook teams are so talented. Their creativity and what they prepare on the Big Green Egg is impressive. We feel like we’ve created this fabulous food festival with a southern garden party vibe. We want all our friends and the community to come out and have a great time and eat to benefit some great causes.”
Back by popular demand, in partnership with Chan’s Wine World, Knob Creek will be presenting two “Smoked Cocktail” seminars. Samples will be offered during the event to tasters 21 years of age and older. In addition, Abita Brewing Company will unveil some of their new brews, including Honey Suckle and Hop 99, during their craft beer and food pairing seminar.
For college football fans, the ENCO Sports Zone will feature two large screen televisions featuring the most popular college football games airing that day. Kids and their parents can take a break from tastings and enjoy arts and crafts in the Kids Zone, which includes a cool zone with water features sponsored by Forever Lawn of the Emerald Coast. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paying adult.
Eggs on the Beach will feature live music by Clint Hall as well as chances to win a Big Green Egg and other prizes. Proceeds from Eggs on the Beach benefits Fisher House of the Emerald Coast and Food for Thought Outreach. Located on Eglin Air Force Base, the Fisher House provides a home away from home for military families ensuring family members can be together during treatment for serious illness or physical/occupational therapy. Food For Thought aims to end food insecurity by serving students in Okaloosa and Walton County with backpacks filled with healthy meals and snacks for nights and weekends.
For those who are interested in owning a Big Green Egg, the Demo Eggs that are used during the event will be sold in advance with nest (metal stand) and plate setter for a discounted price.
