For the Health Of It Keeps Scenic 30A Healthy
November 4, 2016 by Audrey Johnson
For the Health of It has been in business for 22 years in Blue Mountain Beach. That’s long enough to see organic babies grow into organic kids into organic teens into healthy adults.
After all this time, the good folks at the health food store / nutritional emporium / juice & smoothie bar still manage to keep things fresh. Now they’re stocking items from the largest provider of organic produce in the Southeast to offer loyal customers clean food at conventional prices.
The shift helps For the Health of It compete with conventional prices at big box stores while staying true to the same exceptional quality they’re known for. They also happen to stock some of the most beautiful sweet potatoes in existence.
For the Health of It carries organic, gluten free, and dairy free/vegan groceries, as well as grass fed organic meats from small family owned farms. Every item in the store passes rigorous screening by the staff to make sure it’s clean and healthy.
“My staff runs this business with knowledge and professionalism and a spirit that allows for others to feel welcome,” says owner Ed Berry. “That’s something I’m really proud of.”
His staff consists of a chef and supplement and nutrition experts who are engaged in continuing education. Not surprisingly, some of the best educators are their very own clients. There’s a huge exchange of nutritional health information at For the Health of It among staff and clients, making it a truly remarkable cornerstone of vitality in our community. “Without our staff it just doesn’t work,” Ed adds.
Nutrition expert Dr. Josh Axe even live-streams shopping trips at For the Health of It on Facebook (which you can watch here) in an effort to point shoppers toward health conscious snacks, meals and supplements.
People are educating themselves on what’s gone wrong in the food industry, and realizing we can take our health into our own hands by being smart about what we put in our bodies. Customers and staff at For the Health of It share stories, health and nutrition information, and recipes as part of the movement. Some customers are battling serious health issues and combine technological advances in medicine with good nutrition for a holistic approach to healing.
“We learn as much from our customers as they learn from us,” says Ed.
The massage clinic at For the Health of It is a huge part of the holistic approach to health and wellness, and it is also the oldest established massage clinic in Walton County. Clinic manager June Sinnott has been there 20 years, providing knowledge and experience that is unsurpassed.
In addition to their established massage clinic, For the Health of It runs the original organic juice bar in Walton County. They’re still producing incredible quality juices and smoothies made to order. Everything is sustainable, down to the biodegradable cups, straws and bags.
“We try to be as sustainable a business as possible,” says Ed.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Ed attributes much of his success to his friend, ex-wife and retired business partner, Rachel Morgan. Her imprint still lives within the walls of For the Health of It as a testament to the core values that Ed promises will never change.
